FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State hosts Oregon on Saturday in perhaps the stiffest test of the season to date. At 6-0, the Bulldogs have matched the third-best start in program history and have won their games by an average margin of 17.3. Meanwhile, the Ducks have been just as impressive, starting 5-1 with their only loss coming on the road against top-ranked Illinois.
Saturday's contest begins a three-game stretch that sees Fresno State take Oregon and Pacific - strong candidates for the NCAA Tournament - and a tough San Francisco club on the road.
The Bulldogs are gunning for a 7-0 start, something that has been accomplished only two other times in program history. The last time came in 1980-81, when the team began 10-0 - the best start in program history - en route to a 25-4 record. The only other 7-0 start came way back in 1929-30, when J. Flint Hanner's crew won their first eight.
