FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State comes into Thursday's contest hoping the start of the WAC season will help them cure the ills that have befallen the team during its three-game losing streak. After starting 6-0, the Bulldogs are currently 6-3 and face a tough chore in taking on a Hawaii squad which enters with a perfect 8-0 record but is playing on the road for just the second time this season. Thursday's game is being broadcast live by KFRE WB 59 (Comcast cable 5), with Eddie Doucette and Dave Bollwinkle calling the action.
One key heading into the Hawaii game is the play of Mustafa Al-Sayyad. Since being named WAC Player of the Week on Dec. 13, Al-Sayyad has gone into a bit of a slump, averging just 8.3 points and 6.7 rebounds per game. But tonight, he is going up against a Hawaii team he dominated last year, posting 18.5 points and 13 rebounds per contest in leading the Bulldogs two a season sweep of the Rainbow Warriors.
Fresno State welcomes longtime rival San Jose State to the Save Mart Center on Sunday for a 3 p.m. game. The Bulldogs have defeated the Spartans seven consecutive times and haven't lost to SJSU since the 1998-99 season. It will mark the 139th matchup between the two teams.
