Impressive Individual Efforts Highlight Lee Adams/CSUB Roadrunner Invitational

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Competing in its first outdoor meet of the season, Fresno State's track and field squad recorded some impressive individual performances on Saturday afternoon at the Lee Adams/CSUB Roadrunner Invitational.In all, three meet and stadium records fell as 329 collegiate and prep student-athletes got a chance to test their mettle in 42 events.
On the women's side, senior Kara June (Santa Maria, Calif.) established a new personal-best in the 3,000-meter run when she clocked in at 10:04.45 en route to winning the event. Freshman Mallory Webb (Dundee, Ore.) took first-place honors in the javelin with a toss of 145-09. Senior Jenny Moore (Upland, Calif.) led all competitors in the triple jump with a leap of 38-00.5.
Fresno State athletes locked down the top three spots in the pole vault, with junior Annie Malaythong (Merced, Calif.) leading the group at 11-6. Michelle Lennox and Samantha Modeste finished second and third, respectively, at 11-0.
Bulldog relay teams also fared well. The distance medley squad took first-place honors with a 12:41.9, while the 4x200-meter relay team also was victorious at 1:40.1.
The men's team also performed well in their first outdoor competition of the year. Junior Russell Weaver (Clovis, Calif.) won the pole vault with a career-high mark of 17-1. Checking in behind him were teammates Adam Andresen (Roseville, Calif.) with a 15-6 and Roy Phelps (Coalinga, Calif.) at 15-0.
Other individual leaders included the following: freshman Dionte Holloway in the high jump with a 6-6, Jesse Smith in the 55-meter run with a 6.3, junior Chris Berrian in the 300-meter run at 35.0 and junior Kyle Cirrincione notched a 16:33.0 in the 5,000-meter run.
Freshman Robert Calzadilla (Berlin, Germany) led all competitors in the long jump with a mark of 22-10.
Fresno State's 4x100-meter relay team ran a 42.0 to take first-place honors, while the 4x200-meter relay crew also led their event with a 1:28.3.
The Bulldogs now turn their attention toward the WAC Indoor Championships, scheduled for Feb. 26-28 in Boise, Idaho.
