No. 41 Bulldogs Squeak Past Santa Clara 4-3

FRESNO, Calif. - Alex Krohn's three-set win at No. 2 singles lifted 41st-ranked Fresno State to a 4-3 victory over Santa Clara on Saturday at the SCU Tennis Center.
Krohn defeated Taylor Bedillion 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 with the Bulldogs (4-4) ahead 3-2 in the match. The senior improved to 4-2 in dual matches, including a solid 4-1 record at No. 2.
Fresno State clinched the doubles point with wins on courts one and three. At No. 1, Sergiu Modoc and Stefan Suta took out 49th-ranked Gernot Fischer and Eric Kochanski 8-3 to set the tone.
In singles action, Charles Irie and Jakub Cech earned straight-set victories on courts four and five to give the Bulldogs a 3-0 match lead. For Irie, the win came in the freshman's second dual match. He joined the team this semester and began his Fresno State career with a victory on Thursday against BYU.
Santa Clara (2-5) responded with two victories to keep the contest close. Freshman Kevin McQuaid posted a 7-5, 7-4 win over Sergiu Modoc on the sixth court, while Chen picked up his first singles victory of the season, winning the last three games to earn a 6-4, 7-5 win over Stefan Suta.
Next up for Fresno State is a home match against No. 10 Washington on Friday at 2 p.m. at the Wathen Tennis Center.
