Hill to Appear at World Ag Expo

FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State football coach Pat Hill and California State University, Fresno President John D Welty will make personal appearances in a special rally at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 10 at the World Ag Expo. Joining Hill and Welty will be select members of the Bulldog Marching Band and the Fresno State Spirit team (cheerleaders, dancers and mascot Timeout).
The Red Wave Rally is part of Fresno State's charge of painting the Valley red. Anyone who wears red Fresno State clothing will get two dollars off the admission price at the gate. Half of all the proceeds will be donated to the university to further their programs.
The 2004 World Ag Expo runs Feb. 10-12 at the International Agri-Center in Tulare and opening day will be "Fresno State Day." The day is to honor Fresno State friends and fans, said Margaret Uchita, World Ag Expo chairperson for 2004.
"We want to blanket the showgrounds in red," Uchita said.
Hill, whose 'Dogs are fresh off winning the Silicon Valley Football Classic over UCLA in late December, will sign autographs during the rally at the Dodge display, located at U Street 32 and 34 at the east end of the showgrounds. Fresno State has the only Division I-A program in the Valley and in recent years have recognized nationally for their outstanding successes on the football field and in the class room.
"Our football team is proud to represent the entire Valley," said Hill. "We are proud to be a part of the agricultural programs and business of our community. So many great people from the ag community are likewise actively involved in Bulldog Football."
Mimi's Caf? of Visalia, Budweiser and Pepsi will provide food and beverages. After the pep rally, Hill and Welty will lead the Fresno State contingent to visit the College of Agricultural Science and Technology booths in Pavilion C.
The World Ag Expo is the largest farm trade show in the world featuring equipment, product, technology and service sales as well as agricultural education. More than 1,600 companies use 2.5 million square feet of sold exhibit space.
Free seminars focus on topics such as ag terrorism, methane digesters, international trade and large-herd dairying. Special presentations are on going throughout the three days of the show.
