Griffin Named WAC Pitcher of the Week
2/9/2004 12:00:00 AM | Baseball
Griffin pitched a career-high 7.2 innings and limited third-ranked Stanford to just two hits in a 3-1 Fresno State win last Friday. The Chowchilla, Calif., native gave up one unearned run and walked three while striking out five to earn the win in the Bulldogs' season opener. In addition, Griffin retired the side in order in five of the eight innings he pitched in. The victory snapped Stanford's 14-game road winning streak dating back to last season.
The honor was the first of Griffin's career and the first for Fresno State since April 22, 2002, when Ben Fritz received the accolade.
The Bulldogs play host to Cal Poly Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
Additional pitcher of the week nominations included: junior Ricky Bauer, Hawai'i; and sophomore Travis Sutton, Nevada.
