Bulldog Update
After a strong showing at last weekend's CCAA North Open meet in Chico, Calif., the Fresno State men's track and field squad continues its outdoor season this weekend at the Cal Poly Invitational. Competing in a meet that featured 15 schools and a field of over 400 participants, the Bulldogs managed to claim outright titles in eight different events.
A Look Back: 2003 Cal Poly Invitational Recap
Several Bulldogs athletes earned first-place finishes at the Cal Poly Invitational, representing the opening event of the outdoor season. On the men's side, Fresno State collected six first-place finishes. The Bulldogs, which also garnered the best time in the 4x400-meter relay at 3:14.70, were led in the running events by Reggie Allen and Phil Ogilvie. Allen took first in the 400-meter run with a time of 48.68 and Ogilvie was the leader in the 3000-meter steeplechase at 9:27.37. Russell Weaver continued Fresno State's pole vaulting success this year with yet another first-place finish, winning the event at 4.90m. Freshman Dustin Lawrenson's throw of 52.64 in the discus was good enough to win the event, while Kyle Carano placed first in the triple jump with a leap of 15.15m.
CCAA North Open Recap
Fresno State registered 25 top-five finishes and eight individual titles last weekend at the CCAA North Open meet in Chico, Calif. The Bulldogs were well-represented on the men's side, claiming outright titles in eight different oevents. Event winners for the Bulldogs included the following: Chris Berrian in the 200-meter run with a time of 21.33, Rico Morales in the 400-meter run with a time of 48.36, Jesse White in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.12, Ryan Moore in the 400-meter hurdles at 53.09, Russell Weaver in the pole vault at 16-6, Trevor Chatterton in the long jump at 22-10.5 and Joe Vasquez in the hammer at 193-11. In addition, the 4x400-meter relay squad took first place honors with a time of 3:17.43.
First-Year Forces
Several Bulldog newcomers currently hold down the top marks in their respective events during the early going. Freshmen that are listed at the top chart on the depth chart include the following: Sean Marzolf (1:52.95 in the 800-meter run and 8:39.50 in the 3,000-meter run), Ryan Moore (53.09 in the 400-meter hurdles), Robert Calzadilla (22-10 in the long jump) and Ned Chandler (42-3 in the triple jump).
Bob Fraley Named 2003 Nike Coach Of The Year
Fresno State Director of Track and Field Bob Fraley was named USA Track & Field's 2003 Nike Coach of the Year back on Dec. 2. Fraley, the chair of USATF men's pole vault development, received the award Friday, Dec. 5, at Jesse Owens Awards Dinner and Xerox Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, held at USATF's 2003 Annual Meeting in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Bulldog Update
Fresh off a bye week, the Fresno State women's track and field squad returns to action this weekend with the Cal Poly Invitational on Saturday, Mar. 20. The women have not been in action since participating in a quad-meet back on Mar. 6.
A Look Back: 2003 Cal Poly Invitational Recap
Several Bulldogs athletes earned first-place finishes at the Cal Poly Invitational, representing the opening event of the outdoor season. Sophomore Crystal Phillips was the only Fresno State entrant to register two first-place finishes on the afternoon. Phillips won the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.86 and captured the title in the 200-meters when she crossed the line at 24.35- a career-best. Also notching top-honors for the women was junior Kara June and senior Bergann Hernandez. June led all competitors in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a mark of 10:32.96, while Hernandez won the pole vault when she cleared 12-06.00. Fresno State's 4x100-meter relay squad also had an impressive showing, clocking in at 47.91 to take first place.
CCAA North Meet Recap
The Fresno State track and field squad recorded several strong performances at the CCAA North Meet hosted by Cal State Stanislaus on Mar. 6. Overall on the afternoon, the women's team picked up 12 first-place finishes. Top women's performances included: freshman Mallory Webb with a toss of 147-8 in the javelin, junior Annie Malaythong taking first in the pole vault at 12-4 and Ocie Parks winning the 400-meter run at 58.30.
2004 WAC Indoor Championships Recap
Fresno State finished eighth overall at the 2004 WAC Indoor Championships with 29.50 total points. Nevada captured the women's title with 151 points. Senior Kara June was tremendous for the Bulldogs, finishing third overall in the 3000-meter run with a time of 10:06.95. She also checked in sixth in the mile run with a time of 4:59.53. Junior Jennifer Tyler placed seventh in the 400-meter finals at 56.90. Annie Malaythong tallied a personal-best indoor mark of 12-2.50 (3.72m) to take fourth place in the pole vault, earning 4.5 points in the process.
Henson Takes Ninth In Pentathlon
Fresno State sophomore Tonisha Henson was the club's lone participant in the pentathlon at the 2004 WAC Indoor Championships. Henson took ninth overall with 3,006 points. Her best finish came in the 60-meter hurdles at 9.29, good for sixth overall. Henson took eighth place honors in the 800-meter run (2:37.65) and shot put (32-00.75/9.77m). She was 10th in the long jump and 11th in the high jump.
