FRESNO, Calif. - Paced by a 21-hit offensive attack, Cal State Fullerton evened the series with a 15-5 victory over Fresno State Saturday at Beiden Field.
The Bulldogs had a three-game winning streak snapped to fall to 12-15 on the season while the Titans evened their overall record at 13-13.
CSF scored in all but two innings starting with a three-run rally in the first. Kurt Suzuki hit his second homer in as many days with two outs in the frame and was followed by run scoring hits from Felipe Garcia and P.J. Pilittere to chase Fresno State starter Rudy Quinonez. The sophomore right hander allowed three runs on five hits and a walk in 2/3 of an inning to fall to 2-5 on the year.
Trailing 4-1 in the second, sophomore outfielder Chase Moore clubbed his first homer of the year with a two-run blast to right, trimming the Titan's lead to one. Moore (2-3) also collected an RBI single in the seventh to record his first multi-RBI game of the year.
The Titans outscored the Bulldogs 11-2 over the final five innings of the game to seal the victory. Sergio Pedroza highlighted a three-hit day with a two-run shot to right in the fifth giving him his third round tripper of the year. Brett Pill and Matt Caroll tallied their first home runs of the year with a pair of two-run shots in the Titans' four-run eighth.
The series concludes with the rubber match Sunday at 1 p.m. Fresno State left hander Brandon Miller (1-3, 5.11) is scheduled to oppose CSF southpaw Ryan Schreppel (2-1, 6.54).
