What's Coming Up
Fresno State (9-6) takes this week off after winning its second in a row last week. In fact, the Bulldogs are in the midst of a 18-day rest period before they next take the court for a doubleheader against UC San Diego and UC Davis on April 4. The action that morning begins at 9 a.m. at the Wathen Tennis Center.
What Just Happened
The Bulldogs survived a 4-3 marathon against No. 39 Minnesota on Tuesday. The match lasted 5 hours 14 minutes and wasn't completed until Andy Sinn took out Dusan Tabak at No. 6 singles 6-3, 1-6, 7-5. The contest had to be completed under the lights at the Copper River Country Club, as the two players ran out of sunlight at Fresno State's Wathen Tennis Center. The victory was the Bulldogs' second in a row following a two-match losing streak.
All-Time vs. Upcoming Opponents
Fresno State has never lost to either of its upcoming opponents. The Bulldogs are 1-0 all-time against UC Santa Cruz and 8-0 against UC Davis. Fresno State hosted both schools last year in a doubleheader and cruised past both 7-0. The Bulldogs have not lost to a non-Division I opponent since dropping a 4-3 decision to Hawaii Pacific in 2000.
Heavy Home Schedule Rest of the Way
The Bulldogs have to smile when they look at their schedule the remainder of the regular season. Fresno State has seven matches remaining on the schedule, and fivfe of those come at home. The stretch gets underway Tuesday when the team hosts 33rd-ranked Minnesota at 2 p.m. at the Wathen Tennis Center. Other home matches the rest of the way include UC San Diego, UC Davis, UC Irvine, and Pacific. The Bulldogs' only road contests are against UC Santa Barbara and Pepperdine.
The Importance of the Doubles Point
Fresno State did not win the doubles point in last week's match against No. 39 Minnesota yet still won the match, something that has proven to be a rarity this year. In an exhibition of how vital the doubles point can be, the Bulldogs are 7-1 on the season when winning the doubles point and 2-3 when falling behind 1-0. The only instance in which Fresno State won the point and lost the match came against USC.
