WALNUT, Calif.- Competing in its first team-scoring dual meet of the outdoor season, Fresno State swept both men's and women's competitions in a victory over Mt. San Antonio College on Friday night.
The Bulldog men recorded a 116-73 win, while the women won by a 133-39 margin. Fresno State recorded numerous first-place event finishes in the process, with the men notching 14 and the women 17.
Senior Joe Vasquez (Selma, Calif.) produced another impressive performance among the field event competitors, taking first place in the javelin, hammer and discus events. His mark in the discus (51.97m / 170-6) was both a personal best and an NCAA Regional qualifier. Freshman David Endler won the shot put.
Freshmen Dionte Holloway (La Palma, Calif.) and Robert Calzadilla (Berlin, Germany) claimed titles in their respective jumping events, while junior Russell Weaver (Clovis, Calif.) led a 1-2-3 Fresno State finish in the pole vault with a 16-10.75 (5.14m).
The 'Dogs earned another 1-2-3 finish in the 3000-meter run, led by sophomore Ian Mason's 8:49.11. Freshman Ryan Moore (Visalia, Calif.) inched closer to an NCAA Regional qualifying mark with a personal-best 52.62 en route to winning the 400-meter hurdles.
On the women's side, junior Lexine Lesser (Hanford, Calif.) finally broke through with a season-high and NCAA Regional qualifying mark of 12-6 (3.81m), tying teammate Michelle Lennox (Pearl River, NY) for first-place honors in the event. Freshman Mallory Webb (Dundee, Ore.) once again stood out in the javelin, registering a 152-09 (46.55m) to lead all participants. Webb has already qualified for NCAA Regional competition after tossing a season-best 154-9.75 last weekend at the Cal Poly Invitational.
Sophomore La'Sha Hill (Oakland, Calif.) placed first in the hammer (40.46m) and shot put (13.34m) and finished second in the discus behind teammate Katie Richardson. Senior Jenny Moore (Upland, Calif.) also took first in two different events- long jump and triple jump.
Junior Domonique Harper (Long Beach, Calif.) clocked a personal-best 14.62 in the 100-meter hurdles, while senior Kara June (Santa Maria, Calif.) was impressive in winning the 1500 (4:44.68) and 3000-meter (9:54.70) runs.
Junior Ocie Parks (Oakland, Calif.) and freshman Zinzi Evans (Oakland, Calif.) both nearly recorded NCAA Regional qualifying marks en route to first place finishes in their respective events. Parks ran an 11.80 in the 100-meters, while Evans won the 800-meter run at 2:10.90.
