FRESNO, Calif. - Starter Jeff Gilmore and two relievers limited Fresno State to five hits in a 6-2 Dallas Baptist victory Thursday at Beiden Field.
The Bulldogs dropped their season high fourth in a row to fall to 6-11 on the season while the Patriots won their fourth straight to improve to 11-4 on the year.
In a see saw battle, Fresno State scored first in the third inning on senior infielder Chris Patrick's sacrifice fly. Fresno State senior outfielder Tom Shannon doubled home a run in the bottom half of the fourth to knot the game at 2-2.
In the sixth, Yost drove home his second run of the game with a seeing-eye single through the right side of the infield to give the Patriots the lead for good. DBU added three insurance runs in the ninth on a run scoring singles by outfielder Sean Burgess and infielder Drew Noss.
Gilmore (4-1) scattered five hits, walked two and struck out two to earn his fourth win of the year. Patriots' reliever Aaron Klusman limited the Bulldogs to two walks while fanning three over 2 2/3 scoreless innings in relief and Wayne Dowling struck out sophomore outfielder Richie Robnett with the bases loaded in the ninth to notch his first save of the year and preserve the victory.
Fresno State sophomore right hander Michael Cooper (1-2) was charged with a hard luck loss, scattering three runs on five hits and a walk while striking out three over a career and team season high eight innings.
Fresno State freshman outfielder DeAndre Miller scored both of the team's runs and went 2-3 with two doubles and a walk to notch his third multi-hit game of the year.
