FRESNO, Calif. - The Dallas Baptist Patriots improved to 12-4 on the season with a 13-0 blanking of Fresno State Friday at Beiden Field. The Patriots won their fifth in a row with an 18-hit attack while the Bulldogs lost their season high fifth straight, falling to 6-12 on the year.
Patriots' right hander Randall Taylor (3-0) pitched seven shut out innings for the win, allowing only four hits and a walk while striking out four. Fresno State freshman left hander Brandon Miller (1-2) suffered the loss, surrendering five runs on 10 hits and two walks in six innings of work.
Fresno State trailed 3-0 after six innings, but Dallas Baptist continued its hitting barrage until the final frame. In the seventh, Patriot outfielder Ryan Olivo led off with a double down the right field line. DBU infielder Ben Zobrist then followed with an RBI single to right, consequently knocking Miller from the game. Zobrist finished the game going 3-6, scoring three times and driving in four runs.
Three Fresno State relievers were unsuccessful in keeping the game within reach as the Patriots tallied seven more runs in the ninth inning. Patriot outfielder Drew Holder was 2-4 with two runs and two RBI, highlighted by his fourth home run of the season to lead off the ninth.
The series concludes Saturday at 1:00 p.m. DBU right hander Lance Broadway (3-1, 2.00) is scheduled to oppose Bulldog senior lefty David Griffin (1-2, 4.18).
