FRESNO, Calif. - After finishing the regular season with back-to-back home wins for the first time since the beginning of January, Fresno State looks to continue its momentum against No. 3- seed Boise State on Thursday in the first round of the McCaffrey WAC Tournament. The sixth-seeded Bulldogs are 14-14 (10-8 WAC) and have won their last two in a row, both at home. The Broncos are 20-8 (12-6) and have won six in a row and nine of their last 10.
The Bulldogs lead the all-time series 9-3, including victories of four out of the six games between the two schools since Boise State joined the WAC in 2001. Fresno State is 4-2 all-time against the Broncos at home, including a 55-44 loss on Feb. 14 that was as soporofic as it was low scoring. In that game, the Bulldogs were operating without 73 percent of their offense, which was either suspended or injured. Boise State has won two of the last three meetings in Fresno.
Fresno State is 6-9 all-time in the WAC Tournament, with its last appearance coming in 2001-02. The Bulldogs did not participate in last year's conference tourney due to self-imposed sanctions that banned the program from postseason play. Technically, Fresno State has never won a WAC Tournament because the championship it claimed in 2000 at Selland Arena was subsequently forfeited as a result of use of an ineligible player. The Bulldogs have not won a conference tournament of any kind since 1984, when they defeated UNLV 51-49 to win the PCAA crown.
