FRESNO, Calif. - After three weeks of hard work and fundamental drills, the Fresno State football team will showcase what they've accomplished with the annual Spring Game Friday, April 2, at 4:30 p.m. at Bulldog Stadium. The public is invited and admittance is free.
The Spring Game is the final event for the Dogs during their spring season, the eighth such session under head coach Pat Hill.
"We have had a very good spring," said Hill."We've gotten better as a team, got a lot of players some work and created a lot of good competition at several positions. The Spring Game is a chance for the guys to play and create more competition and as a fun reward for all of their hard work this off season. They have worked very hard and this game should be a lot of fun."
Several Bulldogs have performed well during spring drills, including many young players. Hill singled out sophomore running back Robbie Dubois, sophomore end Marlon Brisco and redshirt freshman Tyler Clutts as showing great improvement.
After the Spring Game, the Bulldogs will be off until early August when they return to practice to prepare for the season opener September 5 at Washington.
The Bulldogs are coming off a 9-5 season, in which they won six of their final seven games, including a 17-9 win over UCLA in the Silicon Valley Football Classic. The Bulldogs return 18 starters and 47 lettermen from that team. Among the returning starters are All-WAC safety James Sanders, two second-team All-WAC defensive linemen, Brian Morris and Garrett McInytre, and the team's leading scorer in kicker Brett Visintainer. The Bulldogs also welcome back the top running back Dwayne Wright, who ran for more than 1,000 yards in 2003, and the team's top passer in junior quarterback Paul Pinegar.
The Bulldogs also return eight players who earned Academic All-WAC honors last fall.
