Louisiana Tech Outlasts Bulldogs, 11-8

FRESNO, Calif. - Kyle Spangler had a game high four hits including a two-run homer in the ninth inning to lead Louisiana Tech past Fresno State 11-8 Friday night a Beiden Field.
The Bulldogs lost their season high sixth game in a row to fall to 12-20 overall and 0-4 in the WAC while Tech improved to 12-19 overall and 3-4 in conference play.
Spangler doubled and scored in Tech's three-run first, hit a run scoring single in the club's five-run outburst in the third inning and socked his third home run of the year in the ninth. Fresno State plated three runs of its own in the first on an RBI ground out by sophomore outfielder Richie Robnett and a two-run homer from senior catcher Brandon Marcelli. The Eureka. Calif., native also tripled and doubled to record his seventh multi-hit game of the season.
Trailing 9-4 in the eighth, Fresno State struck for four runs capped by a two-run home run from senior infielder Ryan Haag to cut the deficit to 9-8. Haag's round tripper was his third of the year.
LT starter Clayton Meyer (4-2) allowed eight runs (five earned) on 13 hits while striking out nine over 7 2/3 innings to notch his fourth win of the season. Matt Lacy retired the final four hitters in order to register his third save of the year.
Fresno State starter Michael Cooper was touched for nine runs (seven earned) on 10 hits and a walk while striking out four in six innings of work to fall to 2-5 on the year.
The series continues Saturday at 6:30 p.m. Fresno State senior left hander David Griffin (2-2, 3.77) is scheduled to oppose Tech righty Blake Burns (3-2, 5.79).
