FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State baseball coach Mike Batesole has announced the signing of right-handed pitchers Allen Bushey and Jason Breckley and catcher Bubba Ruddy to national letters of intent to begin playing for the Bulldogs in the 2005 season.
"We feel that by adding these three fine student-athletes to our strong fall class that we have addressed all of our recruiting needs," Batesole said. "We signed a solid mix of position players, with a heavy emphasis on pitching."
Bushey (6-1, 175 lbs.) is currently pitching for Fresno City College where he sports a 6-2 record and has given up just 56 hits over 72.0 innings pitched. In addition, he boasts over a three to one strikeouts to walks ratio, striking out 70 while issuing just 20 walks on the year.
"Allen possesses a 85-88 miles per hour fastball with a sharp, breaking curveball and an above average change-up," Batesole said. "He should compete for a weekend starting role right away."
Breckley (6-0, 215 lbs.) was a two-way all-league performer last year at Moorpark (Calif) High School where he batted .357 as an outfielder and turned in a 6-3 record with a 2.36 ERA on the mound. He throws his fastball between 87 and 91 to compliment a curveball and change-up. Breckley was also an all-league defensive end for his varsity football team.
"Jason is known for his competitive spirit and tremendous work ethic," Batesole said. "He has a chance to be a solid division one closer who should contribute right away."
Ruddy (6-0, 195 lbs.) is currently batting .360 at El Modena (Calif.) High School. A team captain as a junior, he was the club's defensive player of the year.
"Bubba is known for his defensive prowess and should hit for some power as he matures," Batesole said.
