Pole Vault Supremacy
Just how good have Bulldog pole vaulters been this year? A telling example occurred during the Big Three Meet on May 1, where Bulldog athletes finished 2-3-4-5. Russell Weaver, already an NCAA Regional qualifier, established a new personal-best when he vaulted 17-4.50 (5.30m) to take second place. In addition, Adam Andresen and Leif McMurry earned NCAA Regional berths by hitting the 16-4.75 (5.00m) mark to finish third. Roy Phelps took fifth at 15-9 (4.80m).
A Look Back: 2003 WAC Outdoor Championships- MEN
Fresno State took fourth overall with 102 points. Russell Weaver improved his NCAA Regional qualifying status with a career-best 5.18m showing to take first place honors. Mark Unzueta soared to 4.90m for a runner-up finish to Weaver. Both of the men's relay squads were impressive, as the 4x100 and 4x400 teams finished second. The 4x100 crew of Kevin Carano, Jesse Smith, Chreston Anderson and Reggie Allen ran a season-best 40.35, while the 4x400 team of Allen, Anderson, Chris Berrian and Aaron Vasquez checked in at 3:09.08. Allen took fourth in the 400-meter dash, running a 47.03 to qualify for NCAA Regional competition.
A Look Back: 2003 WAC Outdoor Championships- WOMEN
Fresno State took eighth overall with 29.50 points. A fourth-place finish was the best of the day for the women's squad, as the Bulldogs accomplished the feat twice. The 4x400-meter relay squad of Sunny Arada, Katie Christianson, Jennifer Tyler and Crystal Phillips clocked in at a season-high 3:47.15. The other fourth-place effort on the women's side saw Lisa Krauter throw a 45.31m in the discus.
More On June
At the Mt. San Antonio College Relays on Apr. 17, senior Kara June earned a sixth-place finish in the 3000-meter steeplechase competition with a time of 10:15.22. That mark qualified her for NCAA Regionals, established a new personal-best and at the time ranked sixth in the world. June, who was Fresno State's lone representative at the NCAA Championships in 2003, earned the spot with a wild-card entry as a result of her then personal-best 10:25.47 time- also at the Mt. San Antonio College Relays on Apr. 17. June is a three-time WAC steeplechase titlist.
First-Year Forces
