FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State senior tight end Duncan Reid has been named to the Watch List for the 2004 John Mackey Award, presented annually to the best collegiate tight end.
It is the second year in a row Reid has been named to the Mackey Award Watch List. Last year, he wound up making five receptions for 50 yards despite seeing his action limited by injuries. He also flawlessly performed as the team's long snapper.
Reid's breakthrough campaign came in 2002, when he pulled in 25 passes for 321 yards. In his career, the Glendora, Calif., native has caught 31 passes for 382 yards.
The winner of the Mackay Award will be announced in early December and will receive his trophy at the Nassau County Sports Commission's annual awards dinner in April 2005.
The Mackey Award was created by the NCSC under the guidance of Board Member Don McPherson, a Nassau County native and former NFL and Syracuse University All-American quarterback. Mackey, also a Nassau County native, is regarded as one of the best athletes to have played the position of tight end. In addition to being an NFL Hall of Famer, he is a Super Bowl winner (Baltimore, Super Bowl V) and was the first President of the NFLPA.
