FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State senior placekicker Brett Visintainer has been placed on the Watch List for the Lou Groza Award, presented annually to the nation's top kicker. The list is comprised of the top 30 preliminary candidates for the 13th annual Groza Award, sponsored by the FedEx Orange Bowl. The finalists for the award will be honored at a banquet held Dec. 7, at the West Palm Beach Marriott. The award will then be presented at the 2004 ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards Show on Dec. 9, in Orlando, Fla. Visintainer is coming off a very impressive 2003 that saw him honored as second-team All-WAC. He went 21-of-28 on field goals and a perfect 35-of-35 on extra points. Two of his field goals were game-winners, one coming against Oregon State and the other against Rice. The San Ramon, Calif., native finished the season strong, making 14 of his final 17 attempts. He was named WAC Special Teams Player of the Week on two occasions. Two other placekickers from WAC schools were named to the Watch List -- Damon Fine of Nevada and Tyler Jones of Boise State. Visintainer and the Bulldogs begin their season Sept. 5 with a game at Washington on Fox Sports Net at 2:30 p.m.
