FRESNO, Calif. - With the 2004 football season fast approaching, Fresno State athletics director Scott Johnson today announced the several key future non-conference homes games that have been solidified. The future schedule continues a trend of the Bulldogs playing high-profile, non-conference opponents, many from Bowl Championship Series (BCS) conferences. By the end of the decade, two schools from the Big 12 and one from the Big Ten will be playing in Fresno. No school from either conference has every played at Bulldog Stadium. In addition, the Oregon Ducks will return to Bulldog Stadium for the first time since 1996 for a game on Sept. 9, 2006. Since the formation of the BCS in 1998, the Bulldogs have played just two BCS schools (California and Oregon State) at home. "We are very excited about the future home schedules," Johnson said. "We are finally going to start seeing some dividends from playing some of the teams we have been playing on the road as they will be returning games at Bulldog Stadium. We are also very excited to bring teams from the Big Ten and Big 12. It will be exciting to see teams from those prestigious conferences play in Bulldog Stadium for the first time. It's always great have Pac-10 teams visit Bulldog Stadium." The Bulldogs will be getting some home return dates for games that have been played. By the year 2009, Wisconsin, Kansas State, Kansas and Oregon will be play in Bulldog Stadium. The Bulldogs will return to Washington in 2006 and Ohio State in 2008. Fresno State will begin a home-and-home series with Kansas beginning in 2007. "We still have some non-conference openings on next year's schedule and we are currently working on that," Johnson added. Non-conference match-ups against San Diego State and Colorado State are also scheduled through the end of the decade. The WAC schedules for each year will be announced at a later date as will more non-conference games as agreements are reached.
