I was so excited for our home opener against Sacramento State because for me, this was my first home game of the season.
Unfortunately, I sprained my right MCL during preseason a week before we started exhibition games. I was devastated when I found out the bad news because I knew I would have to miss some games. I had to sit out almost three weeks for it to heal because this injury has no surgical procedure.
I was able to travel to Southern California when we played UC Riverside and Cal State Fullerton, but I sat on the bench and watched from the sidelines. It was really tough sitting out and watching because I was so eager to play with my old teammates again and share new experiences with the freshmen.
I especially wanted to play against Sacramento State because they are from my hometown. I actually live 15 minutes away from Hornet Stadium and have some friends who are on the team. I have played with or against some of those girls since I was 14. Now I'm competing against them in college.
Beating Sacramento State on our home turf was awesome and a 5-0 shutout made it even better. Our team really came together and finally got a deserving win. This win was huge for us and we needed it after our unlucky weekend in Oregon.
I hope this boosts everyone's confidence and we can continue winning and make it back-to-back victories. We had a very demanding week in practice for our game against New Mexico. We watched some film, went to individual meetings and did a ton of conditioning. Everybody worked extremely hard to prepare for this match and I know we will be the team that comes out on top.
