After two rounds of play at the Fresno State Lexus Golf Classic, Fresno State stands in a tie for sixth place after shooting rounds of 294 and 287 on Friday. Leading the 15-team field is San Diego State, which has a three-shot lead after shooting 1-under-par as a team. The Bulldogs were led by Mark Modglin, who shot 70-71 to stay -1 on the day. Modglin is currently in a tie for seventh place.
Behind Modglin for the Bulldogs is Jon Rosa. Rosa, fresh off of a tournament win at the Alister MacKenzie Invitational, had a tough first round with a 77, but rebounded with a 2-under 69 to close the day at +4. Matt Shaw and Gunnar Avinelis both were +7 after the first day, Jason Anthony was +9, and Nick McClintock rounded out the scores for the Bulldogs with a 154.
In the individual contest, Denver's James Love leads the tournament after shooting a 70-68 to close out the day at -4, closely pressed by Southern Utah's Eric Nillson. Six more players are within three strokes of Love though, including Fresno State's Mark Modglin.
"It's a good battle for the tournament title," said Fresno State head coach Mike Watney. "The Bulldogs are struggling a little bit, but we're certainly still in contention for a good finish."
Play continues at the par-71 San Joaquin Country Club on Saturday with tee times starting at 8 a.m.
