Bulldogs Head Home After Losses in ITA Northwest Regionals

FRESNO, Calif. - After three days of competition in the Wilson/ITA Northwest Regional Championships in Santa Clara, Calif., the men's tennis team heads home following two losses Sunday. The `Dogs however, do not come home without some solid victories. Overall, Fresno State advanced a doubles team to the quarterfinals and a singles player to the quarters in a tough draw loaded with top ranked players from around the region.
Senior Sergiu Modoc and junior Charles Irie started off the day with a victory in the doubles round of 16, beating Jan Macek and Bobby Rasmussen of Santa Clara. In the quarterfinals, Modoc and Irie ran into a tough team, losing to top seeded Daniel Chu and Alex Slovic of Washington.
"We played pretty well this weekend," said head coach Jay Udwadia. "Obviously we wanted to advance deeper in the draw, but we played solid considering we made it to the quarters in singles and doubles."
Junior Jakub Cech played in the quarterfinals of the singles draw, but lost to the second seeded Slovic of Washington.
