Up Next
The Bulldogs will renew a series with New Mexico State this weekend. This is the first game between the two schools since 1991. New Mexico State joined the WAC this season, after playing the previous 4 seasons in the Sun Belt Conference. This marks this sixth time in the last seven years Fresno State opens the WAC schedule on the road.
Game Time Change
Due to ESPNU televising the Fresno State vs. New Mexico State game, the game time has been changed to 7 p.m. PT. That's a changed from the previously published game time.
About the Aggies
New Mexico State enters the week with a 0-5 record after playing their first WAC game, last weekend, losing at Louisiana Tech 34-14. First-year head coach Hal Mumme brought the "Air Raid" offense to Las Cruces, where the Aggies have had just three winning seasons since 1978. Mumme, most recently at Southeastern Louisiana, had been the head coach at Kentucky (1997-2000), where he tutored NFL No. 1 pick Tim Couch. The Aggies are the WAC's third-best passing offense, averaging 242.2 yards per game, but that has only translated into an average of 13 offensive points per game.
Returning to Las Cruces
This is Fresno State's first game in Las Cruces since 1991, when the Dogs beat the Aggies 42-28. The Bulldogs are 6-0 all-time at Las Cruces. The Bulldogs have not traveled to the state of New Mexico since 1998, a 28-20 win at New Mexico. Fresno State has an all-time record of 19-4 against teams from the Land of Enchantment.
Back on Track
With just one game over a 22-day period, including 11 days since its last game, Fresno State gets back to a more regular routine. The Bulldogs have one game each of the next nine weeks.
Attack the WAC
The Bulldogs begin their 14th season of play in the Western Athletic Conference this week. Fresno State owns a 95-67-1 record in the conference since becoming a member in 1992. The Dogs are 32-45-1 in WAC road games overall and 18-14-0 under Pat Hill in WAC road games. The Dogs are 7-3 in their last 10 WAC road contests. The Bulldogs are 10-3 overall, including 7-1 under Hill, in WAC openers. Under Hill, the Bulldogs are 47-19 (.712) in WAC games. Fresno State is the only team that has yet to play a WAC game in 2005.
