Mathis In Contention For USATODAY Player Of The Week

FRESNO, Calif.- Senior running back Wendell Mathis, who helped propel No. 21 Fresno State to a 27-13 victory at Hawai'i on Saturday afternoon, is one of five nominees for college football player of the week at USATODAY.com.
Voting will occur throughout the day on Monday and the winner will be announced on Tuesday. Those wishing to cast their vote in support of Mathis can do so by visiting the following link:
Mathis ran for a career-high 229 yards and three touchdowns in the Bulldog's first win in Honolulu since 1994. His season-long 78-yard touchdown run late in the fourth quarter secured the victory to keep Fresno State tied atop the WAC standings with Boise State. For the season, Mathis has racked up 706 total yards on 114 carries. He has scored 11 touchdowns and is averaging 6.2 yards per carry.
The other nominees include: Iowa State wide receiver Todd Blythe, Wisconsin running back Brian Calhoun, Texas Tech safety Dwayne Slay and Texas quarterback Vince Young.
Fresno State hosts San Jose State on Saturday, Nov. 5, at Bulldog Stadium, with kick-off slated for 6 p.m. Tickets for the three remaining Bulldog home games are available by calling (559) 278-DOGS, on-line at www.gobulldogs.com, or at the Bulldog Ticket Office, located at the south entrance of Bulldog Stadium. Less than 5,000 tickets remain for Saturday's game against rival San Jose State.
