Sainz and Winterhalter Win Again at ITA All-American

FRESNO, Calif. - The doubles combination of Lucia Sainz and Katharina Winterhalter proved to be solid again Friday afternoon at the doubles quarterfinals of the ITA All-American Championships in Pacific Palisades, Calif. The duo was outstanding in its 8-6 victory over 11th ranked Daniela Bercek and Jessi Robinson of Duke.
"They're really cruising right now," said head coach Simon Thibodeau. "They served well today and made some good shots. Tomorrow's match will be tough, though."
Tomorrow the Bulldogs will encounter a tougher opponent, and maybe the toughest they will face all season. Sainz and Winterhalter battle No. 1 ranked Caroline Basu and Shadisha Robinson of Georgia.
The Bulldogs have been impressive in their five-match win streak. During the qualifying rounds, the Sainz/Winterhalter combination topped three opponents ranked in the top 40, including 16th ranked Jenna Long and Sara Anundsen of North Carolina. Yesterday's win over 8th ranked Florida was outstanding considering Florida's Jennifer Magley is the No. 1 ranked player in NCAA singles.
