No. 5 Santa Clara 5, Fresno State 0- NOTES

- Game-time temperature was in the 60's, cloudy and cool. After enduring three straight days of chilly, 40-degree weather during last week's WAC Tournament in Boise, Idaho, the Bulldogs were well-prepared for the chilly Bay Area forecast.
- On Thursday night, the entire team, coaches and support staff ate dinner at the San Jose home of junior Angie Larsen. During the meal, the Bulldogs watched Fresno State's football team defeat Boise State 27-7 on ESPN.
- One possible reason for roster confusion: Fresno State is led by senior midfielder Kortney Lewis, who stands 5-5 and hails from Visalia, Calif. On the flip side, Santa Clara freshman Courtney Lewis is a 5-6 midfielder from Mission Viejo, Calif.
- Kortney Lewis concludes a prolific career as a Bulldog, ranking in the top-three of almost every major offensive category. Lewis ranks second in points (79), goals (30) and shots (179) and is third in assists (19). Fellow senior Koleen Anderson ranks seventh all-time in assists (7) and eighth in shots (100) while senior Barbara Davis is tied for seventh in assists (8).
- Head coach Steve Springthorpe elected to use the same lineup for the ninth straight match. During that stretch, the Bulldogs went 6-2-1.
- Fresno State falls to 5-20-1 all-time against nationally-ranked opponents. Fresno State's last victory over a top-25 club was a 3-1 road win at No. 25 Charlotte in the 2003 season opener (Aug. 29, 2003).
- Tonight's match represented only the second time in 2005 that Fresno State allowed more than one goal in the first half. The other instance came in the season opener against UC Santa Barbara, as the Gauchos scored twice in the first 45 minutes.
- When Marian Dalmy attempted a penalty kick in the second half, it signaled the first time Fresno State has faced a penalty kick attempt in 2005.
- Head coach Steve Springthorpe emptied his bench with seven minutes remaining in the contest, giving playing time to several reserves.
- Springthorpe's record at Fresno State now stands at 15-19-6 through two seasons.
- There was a sizeable contingent of Bulldog fans present for the match, as one would expect with the close proximity and a good number of players hailing from the Bay Area.
