FRESNO, Calif. - Despite a close loss to No. 1 USC, Fresno State made no movement in this week's college football polls, sitting at No. 16 in both the USA Today Coaches Poll and the Associated Press poll. The Dogs actually received more points in the AP poll, but not enough to overtake No. 15 TCU.
Fresno State can clinch a share of the WAC championship on Saturday at Nevada (7-3, 6-1). The game will be nationally televised by ESPN2.
Fresno State's impressive performance against the two-time defending national champions was not lost on the national media. The Bulldogs have received positive feed back from the game, a 50-42 thriller in front of more than 90,000 fans in the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. It was the first meeting between the two schools in a regular season game.
Fresno State held a 21-13 halftime lead, and led 42-41 with approximately six minutes remaining in the game. The Bulldogs' 42 points were the most scored against a Pete Carroll coached team and the most the Trojans allowed at the Coliseum since 1976.
"I'm very proud of our team," said head coach Pat Hill. "We gave tremendous effort last night and I'm glad the rest of the country got to see the quality of our football program and our players. The fan support was awesome. I hope we can have a similar atmosphere for our final game against Louisiana Tech and really send these seniors out in style. They are an incredible group of young men and have accomplished a lot for this university and the Valley."
Tickets for the final remaining Bulldog home game are available by calling (559) 278-DOGS, on-line at www.gobulldogs.com, or at the Bulldog Ticket Office, located at the south entrance of Bulldog Stadium. Fans are encouraged to order their tickets early because each of the last three home games have been sold out. Fresno State returns home Dec. 2 to host Louisiana Tech and the game has been designated as Fan Appreciation Day.
