Irie Advances in Main Draw at UNLV Fall Classic

FRESNO, Calif. - Day one of the UNLV Men's Fall Classic is in the books with two Bulldogs remaining in the main draw of singles and doubles play. Junior Charles Irie had a first round bye before winning in the second round of flight two, defeating Lisandro Picardo of East Tennessee State 7-5, 6-2. Irie, now 3-2 this fall, will face Lee Gregg of Oklahoma tomorrow.
In doubles play Irie and senior Sergiu Modoc beat Kiril Tcherveniachki and David Baxendine of Tennessee 8-3. The Bulldog duo is now 5-3 on the year and will face Kielbowicz/Campbell of UNLV tomorrow in second round action. Modoc lost his first round singles match to Feliz Insaurralde of East Tennessee State, 6-1, 6-1. Modoc now has a singles record of 5-3.
Junior Jakub Cech won his first round match in flight one, beating Tcherveniachki in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4. In the second round Cech was not as fortunate, falling in three sets to Ryan Rowe of Illinois, 4-6, 6-2, 7-6. Cech's fall record now stands at 6-4.
Sophomore Sam Tadevosian was defeated by Rawl Martin of Tennessee 6-2, 6-2, in the first round of singles in flight two. However, Tadevosian bounced back with a three set victory over UNLV's Jonathan Hooper in consolation play. Tadevosian is now 6-4 in fall action.
Tomorrow's action will include the singles semifinals in both flights one and two, while the quarter and semifinals of doubles play will also get underway at 9 a.m. PT.
