Final Indoor Meet Lies Ahead; Conference Meet Coming Up
Fresno State resumes its indoor season this weekend with an appearance at the Bill Cosby Invitational in Reno, Nev. The Bulldogs, who will be competing in Reno for the third time already this year, took a break from competition last weekend and participated in the CSUB Lee Adams Invitational, an outdoor meet in which both the men's and women's teams were present. Following this weekend's event, Fresno State focuses its attention on the WAC Indoor Championships which get underway Wed., Feb. 23 in Boise, Idaho.
Top Finishers At CSUB Lee Adams Invitational
Both Fresno State track and field squads competed at the Cal State Bakersfield Lee Adams Invitational over the weekend. First-place finishers on the women's side at the meet included: Katie Christianson (55-m hurdles), Andrea Buckner (2000-steeplechase), Tonisha Henson (long jump), Lexine Lesser (pole vault) and Regina Ollison (triple jump).
Strong Showing For `Dogs At Silver State Invitational
Fresno State recorded some impressive individual performances Jan. 29 at the Silver State Invitational in Reno, Nev. The Bulldogs finished second in team scoring with 134.50 points. Seniors Katie Christianson and Crystal Phillips each recorded two first-place finishes. Christianson won the 55-meter hurdles at 8:32 and the long jump with a mark of 18-11.25. Phillips ran a 25.13 to take top honors in the 200-meter dash and a 7.06 in the 55-meter dash. Seniors Lexine Lesser and Annie Malaythong tallied a 11-11.75 to share first-place honors in the pole vault.
Fresno State Places Third At Air Force Invitational
The Fresno State women's indoor track and field squad placed third in the team-scoring portion of the Air Force Invitational on Jan. 21-22, officially kicking off the start of the 2005 season. The Bulldogs totaled 65 points for third place, checking in after team champion Colorado State (193) and Wyoming (95). Senior Crystal Phillips placed third in both the 60-meter run (7.64) and 200-meter run (24.83) to lead the Bulldog sprinters. Fresno State's 4x400-yard relay team of junior Sunny Arada, senior Katie Christianson, sophomore Brittney Gilbert and freshman Christina Lopez took second with a time of 4:00.51.
2004 WAC Indoor Championships Recap
Fresno State finished eighth overall at the 2004 WAC Indoor Championships with 29.50 total points. Nevada captured the women's title with 151 points. Senior Kara June was tremendous for the Bulldogs, finishing third overall in the 3000-meter run with a time of 10:06.95. She also checked in sixth in the mile run with a time of 4:59.53. Junior Jennifer Tyler placed seventh in the 400-meter finals at 56.90. In the shot put, sophomore La'Sha Hill took fourth with a toss of 46-11.75 (14.32m). Annie Malaythong tallied a personal-best indoor mark of 12-2.50 (3.72m) to take fourth place in the pole vault, while Michelle Lennox earned one point for her 11-2.50 (3.42m) finish that placed her eighth.
