Women's Basketball Cruises To 65-47 Victory Over Nevada

FRESNO, Calif.- Fresno State led from start to finish in a 65-47 thumping of Nevada on Saturday night in front of 6,171 at the Save Mart Center.Fresno State (17-9, 8-8 WAC) placed four players in double-figures, shot 43.9-percent from the field and built a safe 44-14 halftime lead. The Bulldogs, who have now won two straight and five of their last seven, were led by Amy Parrish with 16 points and nine rebounds.
Mirenda Swearengin added 14 points, while Aritta Lane (12 points, seven boards) and Tierre Wilson (10 points, five rebounds, five assists) also contributed off the bench.
Nevada drops to 7-19 overall and 3-13 in the WAC.
The `Dogs connected on a 55.9-percent clip in the opening period and ran off a 30-3 scoring run that spanned the final 11 minutes of the first half. A lay-up from Nevada's Meghan McGuire cut the Bulldog lead to 14-11 with 11:31 remaining before Fresno State embarked on the scoring surge. Swearengin's lay-up with 52 seconds left in the half gave the Bulldogs a 44-14 lead at the break.
Nevada outscored Fresno State 33-21 in the second half, although by then the Bulldogs had already built up enough of a cushion. A put-back from Lane put Fresno State up 56-26 with 13:42 left to play, signaling Fresno State's largest lead of the contest.
All 15 players saw floor time for the Bulldogs, who outrebouded the Wolf Pack 47-34 and held a 21-8 edge in assists.
Fresno State next hosts San Jose State on Thursday, Mar. 3 as the season-ending four-game homestand continues.
