Outdoor Season Up Next For `Dogs
Fresno State track and field will take part in the Northern California Collegiate Series meet this weekend, scheduled for Saturday afternoon in Turlock, Calif. The event signals the beginning of the outdoor season, which runs until early July with the NCAA Championships held in Sacramento, Calif. The NCAA Indoor Championships are slated for Mar. 11-12 in Fayetteville, Ark.
Bulldogs Take Third At 2005 WAC Indoor Championship
Fresno State placed third overall at the 2005 WAC Indoor Championships over the weekend, tallying 76 points to finish behind champion Louisiana Tech and runner-up Rice. The Bulldogs were without an event champion on the final day of competition but did have some impressive individual showings. Katie Christianson earned silver medalist honors in the pentathlon with 3,713 points. Aspen Marshall took second in the weight throw at 56-8.75 (17.29m) and established a career-best in the shot put with a mark of 46-5.50 (14.16m). Crystal Phillips advancing to the finals of the 60- and 200-meter races, where she ran 7.72 (seventh place) and 24.84 (sixth place), respectively. Annie Malaythong reached 12-2.50 (3.72) for a runner-up finish in the pole vault, edging out Bree Ann Piva of Nevada and teammate Samantha Modeste. Regina Ollison checked in fifth with a 39-7.25 (12.07m) effort in the triple jump.
Personal-Bests At Conference Meet
Three Bulldogs notched personal-best marks in the 800-meter run at the WAC Indoor Championships, as Zinzi Evans (2:15.43), Katie Christianson (2:26.92) and Tonisha Henson (2:43.38) all topped their previous career-high totals. The same could be said for the following: Andrea Buckner in the 3,000-meter run (10:14.66), Christianson in the long jump (19-4), Malaythong and Modeste with marks of 12-2.50 in the pole vault, Aspen Marshall (46-5.50) and La'Sha Hill (46-2.75) in the shot put and Jamie Farley in the weight throw (55-2.75).
Bulldogs Show Well At Bill Cosby Invitational
Fresno State took sixth place with 33 points at the Bill Cosby Invitational on Feb. 19. While the Bulldogs did not have any individual event-winners on the day, several athletes placed among the top-five in their respective categories.
Top Finishers At CSUB Lee Adams Invitational
Both Fresno State track and field squads competed at the Cal State Bakersfield Lee Adams Invitational on Feb. 12. First-place finishers on the women's side at the meet included: Katie Christianson (55-m hurdles), Andrea Buckner (2000-steeplechase), Tonisha Henson (long jump), Lexine Lesser (pole vault) and Regina Ollison (triple jump).
Strong Showing For `Dogs At Silver State Invitational
Fresno State recorded some impressive individual performances Jan. 29 at the Silver State Invitational in Reno, Nev. The Bulldogs finished second in team scoring with 134.50 points. Katie Christianson and Crystal Phillips each recorded two first-place finishes, while Lexine Lesser and Annie Malaythong tallied a 11-11.75 to share first-place honors in the pole vault.
