FRESNO, Calif. - After being defeated at home for the first time in league play on Thursday, Fresno State hopes to bounce back Saturday at 7 p.m. against SMU. The Bulldogs (12-7, 6-4 WAC) - who have dropped three of their last four - slipped into a three-way tie for third place after suffering a 79-72 loss two nights ago to Louisiana Tech. They will be looking for a measure of revenge against the Mustangs (9-9, 4-6), who knocked off Fresno State 74-63 in the previous meeting between the two schools in Dallas.
Fresno State's post defense was not at the level head coach Ray Lopes would have preferred in Thursday's 79-72 loss to Louisiana Tech. That is something that must change tonight should the Bulldogs get a victory against SMU. In the January meeting between these two teams, the Mustangs' post players shredded Fresno State for 42 of SMU's 73 points, many of which were scored on layups. Two nights ago, La Tech's standout forward Paul Millsap shot 11-of-16 from the floor and piled up 28 points and 12 rebounds in handing the Bulldogs their first home WAC loss.
Fresno State returns to the road next week for a game against UTEP on Thursday at 6 p.m. PT at the Haskins Center.
