Track and Field Opens Outdoor Season At Stanislaus Open

TURLOCK, Calif.- Fresno State track and field competed at the Stanislaus Open in Turlock, Calif., on Saturday afternoon, officially kicking off the start of the 2005 outdoor season.The women's team registered 11 first-place finishes, two of which occurred in the 4x100 and 4x400-meter relays. The men's squad recorded seven first-place showings while also claiming the top spot in both relays.
The Bulldog women displayed their depth in the throwing events, with Mallory Webb winning the javelin at 142-5, Katie Richardson leading all entrants in the discus at 151-3.50 and La' Sha Hill claiming the shot put title at 45-11. Lexine Lesser was the winner in the pole vault, soaring to 11-6.
Winnie Fletcher took home titles in two different events, winning the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.59 and the long jump at 17-11. Christina Lopez (200-meters), Zinzi Evans (1500-meters) and Lauren Archie (high jump) also were event winners.
On the men's side, newcomers Kenny Moon, Alex Jones and Kyle Montgomery all captured event titles. Moon won the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.18, Jones cleared 22-11 in the long jump and Montgomery notched a 47-1.25 in the triple jump.
Chris Berrian topped all competitors in the 200-meters with a 21.33, while Sean Marzolf won the 1,500-meter run with a 3:59.54.
Fresno State is in action again next weekend at the Northern California Collegiate Series meet in Chico, Calif.
