FRESNO, Calif. - Junior All-America shortstop Christina Clark (Santa Ana, Calif.) earned her second Western Athletic Conference Player of the Week honors of the season today after helping Fresno State to a road sweep over Pacific last week.
As the top offensive Bulldog for the second consecutive week, Clark hit .667 (4-6) with two runs, a double, a home run, two walks, a hit by pitch, three RBI while collecting eight total bases for a 1.333 slugging percentage.
Notching her fifth three-hit game of the year as well as her 12th multi hit game of the season, Clark went 3-4 with a run, a walk and three RBI while hitting her 10th home run of the season in the night cap. The home run made it the third straight year in which Clark has had 10 or more. The long ball also was No. 48 of her career, which moved her up to No. 22 all-time in NCAA Division I history. Also in the nightcap, Clark also picked up her 200th, 201st and 202nd career hits. In game one, she broke a 1-1 tie in the seventh. Leading the inning off with a double, she would score two batters later and post the game-winning run.
By collecting a team-high eight total bases last weekend, she now sits four shy of becoming the fifth Bulldog and seventh WAC player to notch 400 or more career total bases. In addition, Clark has hit safely in her last five games. In this streak she is batting .529 (9-17) with six runs, a double, two home runs, three walks, a hit by pitch, four RBI and 16 total bases for a .941 slugging percentage. In her last nine games in which Fresno State has gone 8-1, Clark is hitting .500 (13-26) with nine runs, a double, two home runs, four walks, a hit by pitch, five RBI and 20 total bases for a .769 slugging percentage.
While Fresno State has won 12 of its last 15 games, Clark is leading the way by batting .439 (18-41) with 16 runs, two doubles, four home runs, nine walks, a hit by pitch, a sacrifice fly, 1-1 in stolen bases, 12 RBI and 32 total bases for a .780 slugging percentage.
Clark now has been honored as the WAC Player of the Week nine times in her career.
