Winterhalter Named WAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week

FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State's Katharina Winterhalter was named the Western Athletic Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week. Winterhalter was perfect last week at No. 1 singles.Winterhalter, a junior from Heitersheim, Germany, was dominating in going 3-0 in both singles and doubles as Fresno State won three times last week. The 92nd-ranked player in the nation in singles, Winterhalter, playing No. 1 singles, dropped only seven games in her three singles victories, bringing her season total up to 22. It is the third-straight year that she has posted at least 20 wins in singles (she had 30 last year).
In doubles, Winterhalter was just as overwhelming, dropping only eight games in her three wins. Winterhalter and partner Fadzai Masiyazi have gone an impressive 12-1 this year in the No. 3 doubles slot.
The Bulldogs cruised to victories last week against Loyola Marymount (6-1), Saint Mary's (6-1) and Portland (7-0).
Others nominated included: SMU's Halley Rambally won her both of her singles matches last week, to run her consecutive singles match win streak to 11 ... Rice's Christina Dao won third-straight with a win over TCU's Gloriann Lopez, despite Rice's team loss to the 17th-ranked Horned Frogs. She also defeated Lopez 6-2, 2-6, 7-6(5) at the number five singles slot ... UTEP's Katherine Palider won two singles matches and a doubles match as UTEP split a pair of matches at Colorado State (L, 2-5) and Northern Colorado (W, 7-0). She defeated Jessica Jones (CSU), 1-6, 7-6, (10-7) at No. 5 and Carmen Vasos (UNC), 6-3, 6-4 at No. 4 ... Tulsa's Carla Zabaleta went 2-1 in last week's singles matches. She defeated Christine Skoda (Kansas), 6-4, 6-0 and Diana Martin of Houston, 3-6, 6-0, 6-0, not giving up a single game to close her out after losing the first set.
