FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State heads to Honolulu this week for the WAC Tennis Tournament, being hosted by the University of Hawaii. The Bulldogs are the No. 2 seed and will play the winner of the UTEP and Nevada match on Thursday at 6 p.m. PT (3 p.m. HT). This year marks the first time the women's team hasn't been the tournament's top seed since 2000. Fresno State is the three-time defending WAC champions and have won nine tournament matches in a row, dating back to a loss in the 2001 finals to TCU. The Bulldogs are attempting to become the first team to win at least four WAC titles in a row since BYU won five straight from 1992-96.
Fresno State comes into this WAC Tournament the three-time defending champion of the event. The Bulldogs have won nine consecutive tournament matches, dating back to a loss in the 2001 finals to TCU. In program history, Fresno State has claimed four WAC titles (1999, 2002-04) and owns a 25-10 all-time tournament record. The Bulldogs have also been the runner-up once, that coming in 2001. The team is trying to become the first school since BYU (1992-96) to win at least four WAC titles in a row. No other current WAC school has ever won one league championship.
