FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State head men's basketball coach Steve Cleveland has announced the signing of Quinton Hosley to a national letter of intent. Hosley will begin playing for the Bulldogs next season.A 6-foot 7-inch, 220-pound guard/forward, Hosley attended Lamar (Colo.) Community College for the 2002-03 and 2003-04 seasons. He averaged 20 points, 10 rebounds, 4.6 assists and 2.1 steals per game with the Antelopes and shot over 80 percent from the free throw line.
Hosley was a highly acclaimed player in junior college, earning first-team Division I JC All-America honors in addition to being named first-team all-region and first-team all-conference. As a sophomore, he helped Lamar to a 25-8 record and a second place finish in the region.
"We are excited to have Quinton in the program," Cleveland said. "He's an outstanding player who will have an immediate impact on our team and our ability to win."
During his freshman campaign, Hosley averaged 19 points and nine rebounds per game.
Hosley played high school basketball at Abraham Lincoln High in Denver and was teammates with current Bulldog Hector Hernandez. With Hosley, then a senior, and Hernandez leading the team, Lincoln High advanced all the way to the state tournament and posted the best record in school history.
"Quinton is one of the most talented players I've ever coached, without a doubt," said Vince Valdez, who coached both Hosley and Hernandez at Lincoln High. "He's a multi-talented player who can play inside and outside. He poses matchup problems at 6-7 because he can shoot, put the ball on the floor and has a good inside game."
Hosley joins a Fresno State squad that returns three starters and seven letterwinners from last year's 16-14 (9-9 WAC) team that reached the semifinals of the WAC Tournament.
