Katie Christianson Claims Gold In Heptathlon At WAC Outdoors

FRESNO, Calif.- Katie Christianson captured the title in the heptathlon on Thursday night at the 2005 WAC Outdoor Championships in Tulsa, Okla.
Christianson, a silver medalist at the WAC Indoor Championships, won three events en route to earning her 5,215 points. She started off the competition by taking the 100 meter crown, clocking a time of 14.15 for 957 points. She followed that performance by setting a new personal record when she cleared 1.68m in the high jump. Christianson also posted a time of 24.89 (897 pts.) in the 200m for her third victory.
Tonisha Henson placed sixth with 4,402 points.
In the men's decathlon, the Bulldogs were able to score points from Nos. 3-6. Roy Phelps led four Fresno State competitors in the event, finishing third with 6,387 points. Evan Young took fourth, Humberto Hernandez was fifth and Clarence Williams sixth.
Phelps won the long jump, high jump and pole vault. Hernandez also won an ewent, taking home the competition's final event, the 1,500m.
The competition continues Friday with the prelims and finals, continuing Saturday with all finals.
