Russell Weaver Falls Just Short In All-American Bid

FRESNO, Calif.- Senior Russell Weaver fell just short in his bid to become Fresno State's first male All-American since 2001 on Friday night at the NCAA Championships in Sacramento, Calif.

Weaver, who advanced to the finals after reaching 16-10.75 (5.15m) in the prelims, remained at that same height on Friday evening. BYU's Robison Pratt captured the title at 18-0.50 (5.50m).

Weaver finished seventh overall with a height of 16-1.25 (4.91m) in the pole vault at NCAA West Regionals. He reached NCAA Championships with an at-large berth, as his personal-best 17-6.50 (5.35m) recorded on Apr. 16 at the Mt. SAC Relays was one of the best marks in the nation.
