FRESNO, Calif. - Men's tennis head coach Jay Udwadia has announced the hiring of assistant coach Sean Maymi, effective immediately.
Maymi comes to Fresno State from The Racquet Club of Lake Bluff, Ill., where he served as the teaching professional while providing group and personal coaching for top-ranked juniors. He served as the assistant men's and women's tennis coach at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges for four months in 2004, conducting on-court practices, assisting with the conditioning programs and performing administrative tasks.
In 2003 Maymi served as a member of the player services team at the ATP International Headquarters in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. Maymi also served as the strength and assistant men's tennis coach at the University of North Florida from August 2001 to May 2002, performing administrative and on-court duties.
"We're excited about his appointment at Fresno State," said John Kriebs, the Assistant Athletics Director for Facilities and Operations who also serves as the tennis supervisor. "He will work well with Jay because he brings the same coaching philosophies. He's a problem solver, will take on any task given to him, and is a tireless worker - all tremendous assets for the men's tennis program."
Maymi played tennis from 1997 to 2001 at the University of North Florida, where he finished the 2001 season ranked 28th nationally in singles. He is a 2003 graduate of the University of North Florida, from where he received a degree in communications-advertising.
"After visiting Fresno State, seeing its facilities and meeting the staff, I'm so excited to be joining the men's tennis program," Maymi said. "After talking to Jay and making plans for the team, I know we're on the same page. I'm really looking forward to a tremendous year."
