- Fresno State's 55 points were the most scored by the Bulldogs in a season opening game since 1991, when it scored 55 at home against Northern Illinois.
- The Bulldogs have won seven consecutive games dating back to last season. During that stretch Fresno State has outscored its opponents 372-131 (53.1-18.7 ppg).
- Quarterback Paul Pinegar has thrown 19 touchdowns and just three interceptions in his last seven games dating back to last season.
- Wendell Mathis rushed for three touchdowns tonight, his third three touchdown game on his last five games. He has scored 11 touchdowns in his last six games.
- Clifton Smith became the first Bulldog in school history to score on two punt returns in a single game. Smith now has three punt returns for touchdowns in his two-year career in just six total returns. He had 189 return yards, a Bulldog record for a single game. With one more return for a touchdown this season, he will tie the school records for single season and career touchdown return. Smith is averaging 54.3 yards per return in his career.
- Senior tight end Devyn McDonald had a career-high of four receptions for 67 yards. That was more than he had in his career coming into tonight's game.
- The Bulldogs are now 11-1 in season opening games at Bulldog Stadium.
- Fresno State honored for Bulldog Otis Vincent Tolbert in halftime ceremonies. Tolbert, who played at Fresno State from 1980-83, was killed in the 9/11 attack on the Pentagon while serving as a Lieutenant Commander in the United States Navy.
- Senior end Garrett McIntyre left the game in the second half with a sprained left ankle. He will be evaluated on further on Monday.
- Twelve Bulldogs played in their first career games tonight, including freshman quarterback Tom Brandstater who threw his first touchdown pass.
- Fresno State scored 55 points on just 52 offensive plays.
- Despite winning 55-17, Fresno State's only outgained the Wildcats by 19 total yards (357-338).
- Junior Josh Sherley, in his first career start at strong safety, led the team with nine tackles, including two for a loss.
