FRESNO, Calif. - Sophomore Sam Tadevosian was named the XBox Live WAC Men's Tennis Player of the Week on Friday, Jan. 27, for his outstanding performance last weekend.
The Bulldogs opened the 2006 season at home on Sunday, Jan. 22, beating UC Davis 6-1, then sweeping Cal Poly 7-0. The entire team played well, but Tadevosian shined in all four of his matches.
Against Davis, Tadevosian and teammate Jordi Ballester won 8-5 in doubles play, then the sophomore beat Jayce Fitch 6-1, 7-6 (2), in No. 3 singles. Tadevosian again won in doubles against Cal Poly, 8-6, before dominating at No. 4 singles, beating Darryn Young 6-0, 6-1.
"It was really great to see Sam play so well and with such confidence last weekend," said head coach Jay Udwadia. "Sam's been putting in the time in practice and it's no surprise that he's lifted his game to the next level. I expect him to do a great job for the Bulldogs this year."
Tadevosian is now 8-5 overall and 2-0 in dual match singles, with a record of 6-2 overall in doubles.
The Bulldogs (2-0) return to action this weekend when they host San Francisco on Sunday, Jan. 29, at 1 p.m.
