| Sophomore Melanie Gloria has been named the Toyota/gobulldogs.com Athlete of the Week for the week of Oct. 9. The honor is the first for Gloria and the second for the women's tennis team this season. Gloria had a tremendous week at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's All-American, college tennis' first major championship of the 2006-07 season. Gloria won four consecutive matches to reach the final. In the quarterfinals, Gloria beat No. 10 Megan Moulton-Levy of William and Mary in straight sets. Then in the semifinals, Gloria upset No. 1-ranked Audra Cohen of Miami in convincing fashion. In the final, Gloria narrowly lost to 2006 NCAA Champion and 12th-ranked Suzi Babos of California in the third-set tiebreaker. Gloria, however, proved once again that she is one of the top college tennis players in the country. Also nominated this week were: Laura Luethke (women's golf), Lacey Gera (volleyball), Antonea Lugo (soccer), Marissa McPhail (women's cross country).
