Four Bulldogs Advance to Round of 32 at ITA Regionals

FRESNO, Calif. - Four members of the Fresno State men's tennis team advanced to the singles round of 32 after the first day of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Northwest Regional in Stanford, Calif. Fourth seeded senior Jakub Cech highlighted the day with a 7-5, 6-3 win over San Francisco's Falko Huttenberger.
Senior Charles Irie and freshman Mirko Zapletal both won in the rounds of 128 and 64, respectively. Freshman Rudolf Siwy, seeded 17th, got a first round bye and then beat Derrick Lajola of Hawai'i 6-2, 6-3.
In doubles, Cech and Zapletal had a first round bye, while Irie and Siwy got an 8-1 win over Berger and Meyerowitz of Cal Poly. Freshman Taylor Leiby and sophomore Greg Jackson also won in the first round, defeating Adams and Pineda of Gonzaga, 9-7.
"The competition is about to get tougher," said head coach Jay Udwadia. "We have some chances to do some damage in the next round, both in singles and doubles."
