Cech and Irie Advance to Quarterfinals at ITA Regional

FRESNO, Calif. - Seniors Jakub Cech and Charles Irie both won two matches Saturday to advance to quarterfinals at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Northwest Regional championships in Stanford, Calif. Both will play at approximately 12:15 p.m. on Sunday.
"Charles really played tough today," said head coach Jay Udwadia. "He really stepped up his play in both matches today."
Irie defeated Sacramento State's Anton Stryhas in three sets during the round of 32, then followed with a straight set victory over fifth-seeded Patrick Fischer of Washington in the round of 16. Cech also pulled out a three-set victory over Stanford's Paul Morrissey before defeating Cal's Ken Nakahara in the round of 16.
In doubles, Cech and freshman Mirko Zapletal downed Ching and Del Rosario of San Francisco 8-3. Irie and sophomore Rudolf Siwy also won, beating Embry and Mryhed of Oregon, 8-0. Freshman Taylor Leiby and sophomore Greg Jackson fell to Chizever and Petit of California 8-3.
