| Senior Jakub Cech has been named the Toyota/gobulldogs.com Athlete of the Week for the week of Oct. 23. The honor is the first for Cech this season. Cech won the prestigious Intercollegiate Tennis Association Northwest Regional Oct. 20-24 in Stanford, Calif. Cech beat No. 24 Alex Slovic of Washington in a three set thriller, 6-7 (4), 6-2, 7-6 (4) to capture the regional crown. Cech was down two match points in the third set, but saved both with winners. In the tiebreaker, Cech took an early 4-0 advantage before putting Slovic away with an overhead volley for the clinching point. Cech won six matches in five days and losing only two sets during the tournament. It is the first time in 15 years that a Fresno State men's tennis player has won the regional. Also nominated: Laura Luethke (Women's Golf), Melanie Gloria (Women's Tennis), Tyler Clutts (football), Angie Larsen (soccer), Alison Pitton (volleyball).
