FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State head men's tennis coach Jay Udwadia has announced the signing of Denny Fafek to a national letter of intent. Fafek is one of California's top junior players.
"We are very pleased to have signed a player of this caliber," said Udwadia. "Denny Fafek is talented and will make an immediate impact upon his arrival next season."
Fafek is currently a senior at Los Altos High school in Mountain View, Calif. He will join the Bulldogs in the fall of 2007. Currently, Fafek ranks No. 4 in Northern California and No. 110 overall nationally in the under-18 category.
"I'm very excited to play tennis for coach Udwadia and the Bulldogs," Fafek said. "I love the team atmosphere at Fresno State and I'm looking forward to the challenge of college tennis competition."
The Bulldogs have also added A.J. Kerin to their roster for the 2007 dual match season. Kerin, a junior transfer from Santa Clara, won 40 singles matches in two seasons with the Broncos. Kerin, a native of Saratoga, Calif., will give the 'Dogs plenty of depth for the upcoming year.
The Bulldogs begin the 2007 dual match season on Jan. 21 at 2:30 p.m. when they host the Cal Poly Mustangs in the Wathen Tennis Center.
