Tip-Off
Happy to return home, the Bulldogs will try to keep their perfect 2-0 home record unblemished as the team hosts No. 23 Texas Tech on Friday. The Bulldogs have already vanquished one top 25 opponent this season, beating No. 18 BYU in the Save Mart Center 61-51 earlier this season. In all, Fresno State is 17-1 in the Save Mart Center under head coach Adrian Wiggins, and will be looking to continue that legacy at 7 p.m on Friday.
Just Like The Guiness Book
Fresno State, with the cooperation of the Red Wave and their women's radio partner will attempt to set the school women's basketball attendance record on Friday for a single event. The record was set back in 2004, when the Bulldogs welcomed 4,974 fans for a conference win against SMU. Personalities from 1430 ESPN Radio will be camping out in their RV all week in front of the Save Mart Center, and fans will be treated to a great game with the Lady Raiders.
Around The Corner
Following last week's tough trip, the `Dogs make one stop at home and then head up to the Bay Area, playing No. 18 California along with Santa Clara. As for the home schedule, already through just the first of many marquee matchups at the Save Mart Center, the Bulldogs also host No. 23 Texas Tech on Dec. 1 and make their regular season national television debut when the team hosts No. 15 Stanford on Jan. 2 on CSTV.
Scouting Texas Tech
The Red Raiders made their first appearance in the Top 25 this season, moving up after beginning the season 5-1 with wins over Texas San-Antonio, Texas State and UCLA. However, the team's lone loss on the season came against a familiar opponent to Bulldog fans, as Hawai'i dropped the Red Raiders 57-54 on the island earlier this year.
Fresno State All-Time vs. The Lady Raiders
The two teams have split the only two meetings between Fresno State and Texas Tech. The Bulldogs won the first matchup between the teams, winning 78-69 in Lubbock back in 1989. The Red Raiders won the last meeting between the teams, winning last season 77-67, also in Texas. Forward Latoya Davis had 27 points to key the Red Raider win. This is the first time the teams have played in Fresno.
Quick Starts
Fresno State opened the season winning their first three games, a quick start out of the gate that has been a hallmark of the recent program. The Bulldogs won their first two games last season under Adrian Wiggins, defeating UC Irving on the road before toppling Texas Southern at home. The year prior, the Bulldogs had one of their best starts in program history, winning their first six games, including home wins against Pepperdine, Oklahoma State, San Diego and Washington State. Big name opponents were on the list for the Bulldogs this year as well, taking down Utah on the road and No. 18 BYU at home earlier this season.
Top Opposition
Fresno State faces a rare situation over the next week, playing two Top 25 opponents back-to-back in Texas Tech and California. Both NCAA participants last year, the teams have had enough success to both enter the Top 25 in the early part of the season, becoming the second and third ranked teams the Bulldogs will face in the young season. The last time Fresno State played two consecutive ranked teams is in 1989-90, when the team did it twice. The second time that season was a little technical, as Fresno State played No. 16 Hawai'i on two consecutive days to satisfy conference requirements. Previously during that season however, the Bulldogs played at No. 4 UNLV and at No. 6 Long Beach State as part of a tough non-conference road trip during that season.
Tough Trip
The Bulldogs are happy to return home after dropping their first two contests of the year. The team played a close match in Oklahoma against Oklahoma State, but extensive foul trouble ended the Bulldogs chances, as each player on the team ended with high foul totals. Chantella Perera fouled out of the game, and every other player with the exception of Andrea Roberson (3) had four fouls on the night. Travelling directly to Fullerton, the Bulldogs fell in their second straight contest, outshooting and outrebounding the Titans but ending in the wrong end of the score, 61-56.
