Fresno, Calif. - Joining an already impressive list of accomplishments, senior defender Rochelle Jagdeo was named to the NSCAA/addidas Women's College Scholar All-America Team. The honor is given to student-athletes who best represent excellence both on the field and in the classroom. Chosen by position, Jagedo was one of nine defenders nationally distinguished with the award.
Fresno State had one of their most successful seasons ever, winning the WAC regular season championship primarily on the strength of their defense. The team set a program and conference record with 16 shutouts and did not allow a goal through seven conference games. Nationally, the team finished the year second in shutout percentage and sixth in goals allowed on the year.
Senior captain Rochelle Jagdeo was a large part of that success. Entering the year as the reigning WAC Defensive Player of the Year, Jagdeo anchored a back line that set school records in nearly every defensive category, as well as leading the team to their second-ever WAC regular season championship. Along the way, Jagdeo earned her second WAC Defensive Player of the Year award, the first person to win the award twice. Jagdeo was also named Academic All-District VIII for the second consecutive year.
Jagdeo also earned postseason nods from Soccer Buzz and the NSCAA as an All-Region defender. A senior out of Vacaville, Calif., Jagdeo currently holds a 3.75 GPA and is a Kinesiology major. She was named to the University Division second team.
The honorees will be invited to the NSCAA All-America Luncheon, which will be held on Saturday, Jan. 13 as part of the 2007 NSCAA Convention in Indianapolis, Ind.
